Analysis of student magazine contents page

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The contents page for my student magazine uses, develops and challenges the forms and conventions of real products in a variety of ways. Firstly the layout of the page is very different compared to a normal contents page. I have included many more images and the information on the page has many semantic fields of schooling and education. However it does use conventions as it includes all the expected features ie. a title, barcode, taglines etc.
How does your media represent a particular social groups?
My media product represents particualr social groups due to the way it is presented and delivered. The images included on the contents page are very school orientated and would be instantly recognisable by any one studying subjects or who is at school at this current moment in time. Aditionally, the colours I use a bright, vibrant and relevant because learning is linked as being positive and helpful. I also think that the language I used while creating this page was fairly neutral and didn't eliminate any one because they couldn't understand it.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my music magazine will be anyone who wants to find out the latest news about their favourite artists/bands. I think that the main age range will be between 17-40 as the content which will be on the front cover and inside the magazine will really be aimed at these people. Specific jargon will be used so that my readers can relate to the information and it will also make the magazine far more interesting. (Audience may change due to customer demand) The magazine is also going to be very mainstream as I want it to appeal to a wide range of people.
How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience by including information which they would find interesting and relevant to their interests. Examples being: competitions, new news, free gifts and exclusives on new gadgets. On the contents page itself, I used a very specific image of 3 school boys standing together. Here I wanted to show that this magazine was up to date and understood how to present its ideas.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt that technologies are very important when creating a magazine as you rely on them to make the product look professional yet original. Personally, my favourite editing software is PhotoShop CS5.5 as it comes equiped with a range of features and anyone willing to 'fiddle around' with the software can become very good at using it.
